Focal Dairies LP - Profile
Focal Dairies LP was set up as a United States based company which was developed to purchase and develop dairy farms in Missouri, USA.
The first of these ventures was started in December 2004 with the purchase of 1215ha in Vernon County, Missouri. Considerable time and effort went into analysing land use, climatic and soil conditions and current farming practices in Missouri which lead the Focal partners to believe that New Zealand style open air dairy farming is viable in Missouri.
The 1215ha farm was converted from a grazing and cropping farm into two Dairy Farms. The first dairy farm, known as Kitten Creek Dairies, was ready for the milking season which began in January 2006. Originally set up as one dairy unit with two 50 bail rotary cow sheds milking 2800 cows, it is now two separate units milking 1500 cows each.
The second dairy farm, known as Kenoma Dairies was converted in September 2007 and milks 650 cows.
Focal Dairies also runs an intensive heifer grazing block, know as Kenoma Grazing, and is used for wintering cows and additional grazing for young stock through to R2's.
