Island Glen Farm Description
Island Glen Dairies was purchased in February 2008 and converted to a dairy farm ready for 1 June 2008. The property is 206.7ha in total and is located at 795 Rangitata Island Road, approximately 50km south of Ashburton.
It is a flat farm with Waimakariri stoney sandy loam and shallow sandy loam soil types and is a fully irrigated dairy farm.
The development of this property has captured best practice and efficiencies by utilising the skills of Peter Ormsby to plan the layout and oversee the development of the farm to it's completion.
Nothing is left to chance in the drive for operational excellence which starts with a quality development including complete new pastures and a new stock water system with in line mineral dispenser. A new irrigation system including two centre pivots and one rotorainer. There is also new housing, including a three bedroom plus office brick Managers home. New brick three bedroom staff accommodation along with established housing with mature gardens. The conversion meant the establishment of lanes and new fences. The new 50 bail rotary Farm Dairy has a yard that has the capacity to hold 600 cows. There is a separate covered AB and veterinary area attached.
Fertiliser has been applied to achieve P levels in the mid 30's. Regular soil tests ensure fertiliser applications are as effective as possible. Urea is added to pastures after grazing to ensure maximum pasture growth.
