Longbeach Dairies Farm Description
Longbeach Dairies is a joint venture between the original owners of the farm, Bill & Penny Thomas and Spectrum Land Company. The joint venture company converted and developed part of the Longbeach Estate into a dairy farm that began operations on 1 June 2008.
The dairy portion of the property is 265.8ha in size. Situated 20km South East of Ashburton and bounded by Poplar Road and Windermere Road the soil type is high quality Lismore, making this a dress circle conversion.
The irrigation for this property is via the Eiffelton Irrigation Scheme which is an overland irrigation scheme and water is delivered through drains and irrigation pumps. The dairy irrigation is by one huge 743 metre centre pivot with an 84 metre folding arm attached to the end, which will essentially cover the whole property. Unwatered corners will be taken up with the houses and the remaining small areas irrigated by sprinklers and one rotorainer.
Tthe farm milks 1,100 cows through a 54 bail rotary cowshed. The dairy farm has three quality houses and shared accommodation for the single staff.
