Our People

At the heart of Spectrum Group success, are the people.

People are at the heart of the business we operate. Spectrum Group is operated by a Limited Partnership structure and is governed by a General Partner that employs 2 shareholding directors and 2 independent directors.

Our management team is led by Managing Director, Mike O'Connor, and Business Manager, Shona Quinlan.  A hallmark of Spectrum Group is the autonomous operating model which means all Farm Business Managers report directly to the Managing Director.

Spectrum aims to lead the way in farming employment and looks at unique ways to attract and retain its people.  Innovative thinking means we believe we can offer lifetime careers for those who are part of the Spectrum family.

Mike O'Connor - Group Managing Director

Mike farms near Te Awamutu in the Waikato with his wife Andrea. Their dairy farming career includes 50/50 sharemilking, farm ownership and equity farming. As a founding shareholder of Spectrum Group, Mike was heavily involved in setting up the structure and guiding Spectrum Group’s development.  Mike is currently the Group Managing Director.

Ian Farrelly - Director

Ian runs a large calf rearing business at his home near Te Awamutu. He also has interests in the horse racing industry and is an independent director for a number of large New Zealand based businesses. Ian was formally the head of ASB rural banking division until 2007 when he left to concentrate on his other business interests.

Jerry Rickman - Independent Director

Jerry was elected onto the Spectrum Board as an independent director in 2010. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and was a partner in Beattie Rickman (now part of Pricewaterhouse Coopers) until 2006.
